Chimney Camera Inspection in Queens & Long Island

A camera inspection runs a video camera up the flue so we can see cracked tiles, gaps in mortar joints, creosote and blockages that aren't visible from the firebox or roof. You see the footage, not just our summary.

What is chimney camera inspection?

Most of a flue can't be seen from the firebox or the roof. A camera inspection sends a video camera through the flue so we can see the condition of every tile, joint and liner section.

It's the way to find cracked or missing clay tiles, open mortar joints, liner damage, heavy creosote and blockages like nests — and it means you see the evidence yourself.

Warning signs

  • Strange smells or smoke from the fireplace
  • A previous inspector mentioned flue damage
  • You suspect a chimney fire happened
  • Debris or tile pieces falling into the firebox
  • Before relining, to confirm what's needed

How SkyFlue does it

  1. 1
    Prepare the opening
We protect the room and access the flue from the firebox or the top.
  2. 2
    Scan the flue
The camera records the full length of the flue.
  3. 3
    Review together
We show you the footage and point out what matters.
  4. 4
    Recommend next steps
Repair, reline or nothing at all — based on what the camera shows.

What affects the scope

  • Flue height and number of bends
  • Heavy creosote that must be removed first
  • Whether access is from the top or bottom
  • Number of flues to scan

When to call

Chimney Camera Inspection FAQ

What can a camera find that a visual inspection can't?+

Cracked or missing flue tiles, gaps in mortar joints, liner separations, hidden creosote and blockages partway up the flue.

Do I get to see the footage?+

Yes. We review it with you and share screenshots of anything important.

Is a camera inspection the same as a Level 2?+

A camera scan is one part of a Level 2 inspection, which also includes accessible attics and crawl spaces.

Does the flue need to be cleaned first?+

Sometimes. Heavy soot or creosote can hide damage, so we may need to clean before scanning.
